One thing that helped her was my uncle started dating a woman who had a young son from a previous marriage and my parents have accepted a family friend’s son as their grandson in pretty much every way. She loved them and considered them family even though they weren’t related by blood. My other grandma is in a similar boat since my cousins on that side have both flat out said they are too focused on their careers/finishing school to even begin to think about kids any time soon. I have not only reproduced but we made male heirs. None of this Border Collie Walk Christmas shirt it is in the first place but matters to us but somehow this gets points at family gatherings in my Asian family. Asian parents be at their daughters graduation with a PHD and honors, and brag about how her older brother has 8 sons.

Passing down the Border Collie Walk Christmas shirt it is in the first place but family name is surprisingly fragile, for some reason. My paternal grandparents had five kids, eight grandkids (six from sons), and unless I’ve forgotten someone, 11 great grandkids so far (mostly from myself and my brothers). Of the great grandchildren, my son alone can pass on that name. One boy out of eight grandkids in my immediate family. And my BIL is in a similar position – four kids in FIL’s family, and unless BIL starts a family and has a son soon, that family name dies with him too. I mean, that branch of it does, they still share it with like tens of millions of other Chinese people. But still. The difference in how my parents treated me before and after the birth of my niece is like chalk and cheese. The golden child became even more golden when she gave them a grandchild. I got offered to spend my own money to buy a rusty caravan in a caravan park that was still running despite having its licence revoked ten years ago due to being a fire trap.
