I was given a box to pack my leftovers in one restaurant – I was eating alone without a hungry husband to finish my portion for me. I didn’t particularly want the Bobby Charlton English professional footballer who played as a midfielder T-Shirt but in fact I love this leftovers and hadn’t asked to take them, particularly since I had eaten all the best bits, but as they brought the box I thought I might as well. I felt very self-conscious doing it though, and would definitely refuse in future. I would much rather they offered the option of smaller portions on the menu. As I’m only 5’ it always seems ridiculous that I am expected to purchase a portion equal to that of my 6’ husband. I recently ate in a “Latin” restaurant which I think was mostly mexican, and when I asked to take away the leftovers they gave me a container. Was in Spain though.

Only once was I just handed a pizza box rather than them taking the Bobby Charlton English professional footballer who played as a midfielder T-Shirt but in fact I love this food and packing it. And I was so confused I was just sat there holding the box for ages cuz I thought they might come back or something. The only time I haven’t had them packed for me is in a few pizza places, and cheaper restaurants like Nando’s which are basically plated fast food. Perhaps it’s because I literally just said ‘could I have a box to pack these leftovers?’ I’m not native in English so I perhaps didn’t express my request in a usual Londoner’s way? Actually came home from a meal last night with half a tarte tatin that was neatly packed in a box for me and handed to me in a bag with my coat It depends on the type of restaurant, I’m always asked at an Chinese or Indian restaurant but never been asked at a British pub or a high end restaurant. At the restaurant I work at, we take takeaway containers to the table and the customer sorts it out themselves. Depending on how busy I am and how small the tables are, sometimes I will help. If you want it packed up, you gotta ask. Never come across a place that didn’t box it up for you if you requested it. My wife had half of her stomach cut away after having Sepsis. She can rarely, if ever eat a whole meal. So doggy bags are a fact of life for us. If she hasn’t brought a tupperware box with her we will ask for a take away box. They are usually handed to us to do our own re-packing.
