The system of please “turn off your phones/put them in airplane mode” is relying on voluntary compliance, but there are always a few who forget or don’t play by the Bob Marley One Love FanShirt and I will buy this rules. I accidentally forgot on one flight, and learned that there’s no cell service at 35,000 feet anyway. Yes I promptly turned it to airplane mode when I discovered my error. (though that article is nearly a year old, the “deadline” was a few months ago and I think they still ask you to put phone on flight mode) Actually, when I flew last weekend they asked that people store their digital devices, but didn’t mention anything about flight mode or turning off communications! I did anyway because I’m generally a rule-follower. Ah cool! I recently took an internal flight in France and they did ask us to, and told us we could turn them off flight mode when we landed, but then again maybe easyjet just hadn’t updated their announcements

Repeat as the plane moves across the country. I deep dived this ages ago but the tldr is a long time ago device’s did make some impact so airlines banned them. It wasn’t s huge desk but they didn’t make chances and the US eventually made it a law. Some people have argued I’m favour of keeping it as it stops the passengers from getting distracted during a time when they should be listening to safety instructions
