That is an outcome where admins have to actively do something, and when it can backfire, like in the Bob Loblaw Law Blog Variant shirt and I love this AMA. Saying it is the same is stupid. Yup, I’m glad to see tons of massive subs are keeping the pressure on. Hell, there are some that I’m pretty shocked are doing so, I always figured they were directly associated with Reddit employees. This. Making a large number of subs private for 2 days does absolutely nothing. A statement was made, sure, but not one that was significant enough to make even the slightest difference. Especially considering an exact end date was already planned. Reddit knew exactly how long they would need to ride it out for, and they knew it wasn’t a threatening period of time.

Exactly. This feels very reminiscent of many other protests/boycotts we’ve seen in both digital and physical spaces – “We disagree with so we’ll protest/boycott them until it slightly inconveniences/bothers us, and then we’ll forget about it and carry on.” People just want to feel like theyre helping but not actual put in any work. Im sure a large majority of the Bob Loblaw Law Blog Variant shirt and I love this people protesting have no idea whats actually going on. They just saw they favorite subs mods telling them to protest so they did Many years ago there was an attempt by some group to protest the rising gas prices by…get this…encouraging people to go one particular day (let’s say Wednesday) without stopping to buy gas. I responded to that email suggesting that such a thing would not produce anything other than doubling the amount of gas sold on Thursday (because people would still need to buy gas for their cars).
