Psst, here’s a secret – theyre using your money to make a charitable contribution in order for them to pay less taxes and also to have the Blessed By God Spoiled By My Uncle Protected By Both Jesus T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this positive PR of being so generous. Dont fall for that bullshit. Oh good, so it’s just for their own PR. That makes me feel slightly better, since corporate taxes are at historic lows already. fun fact, they dont do it because they care about donating, they have that because it gives them less taxes. they literally only do it because they make money off it Wait, it gets better. They want you to donate so they can get a write off! I really want to see companies burn to the ground. Literally just a tax scam. You donate, they receive tax write off, and the only reason it’s allowed is because in the end charitable orgs get more $$ so it’s tough to argue. They take the money, claim they donated it, and write it Off for their taxes. You’re helping them not pay taxes. Huge scam That’s because with donations they get am exemption of sorts when it comes to taxes. It’s a really scummy practice, done by pretty much every corporation This reminds me of a certain sandwich chain who always asks if I want to ‘Round up for the firefighters ‘ – I never know what this actually means or if the employees actually know or would tell me if they did. But I assume it’s either 1) a contribution on behalf of the company that they use as a tax write off or 2) goes into the employees pockets (I guess maybe in their company speak firefighters could mean the people making sandwiches) . This question has bothered me for over a decade and I would love any insight if anybody knows.

There was a Reddit thread some time ago RE McDonald’s (and others’) round-up crusade and several who seemed to know said it’s a straight donation to whatever charity and the Blessed By God Spoiled By My Uncle Protected By Both Jesus T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this business does not declare it. IOW: Seems legit. They already made a donation and got a big fat tax deduction for doing it. They are asking you for a donation to cover what they gave and provide them with a profit for their oh so noble contribution to end hunger. They already donated money to that charity and got a massive tax break. Now they want to recoup that money (or more!) and give you the bill. …Then they donate your money in the corporation’s name and get a tax credit on the donation to decrease their tax obligations and increase profits. No thanks.
