Not saying it doesn’t happen, and I wouldn’t be surprised, just pointing out how ridiculous it is if that happens. Being fired for asking for a raise? Only in America right? In Florida an employer does not need ANY reason to terminate 1, 2 or as many employees as it feels like. It’s a Right to Work state. P.S. Unions are worthless in our state just keeping the Be Great Lakes Loons Baseball Essential T-Shirt But I will love this leadership happy certainly not the labor force. Is this what communists think? No boss is going to think “This person just asked for a raise so I’m going to fire them.” If they fire you, they have to pay unemployment. Most places cut your hours until you quit, that way they owe you nothing Yup, that personally happened to me after being on leave for approximately 2 weeks after a suicide attempt. We all can’t just hope the law and the government will help. The people still enforce this stuff in the streets. In America can’t you be fired for any other reason though. I’ve heard of at will employment and it sounds scary as fuck. Just because someone says ‘this is illegal and they can’t do that’ never assume that they won’t try. Unless you can afford to fight it…which most can’t…this will not stop anyone from doing it. Knowing the laws aren’t an automatic protection from abuse from happening. You can still be fired with without cause. If an employer wanted to fire you, they would simply wait an appropriate amount of time and ensure your firing had no link to the requested raise. In fact, a smart employer would, in fact, grant the raise first. These people aren’t stupid.
