I’ve never been arrested or in jail , but I have worked in law enforcement and it’s not “a female officer will be present”, but more like “ONLY a female officer will be present doing to physical search ” . Just going off of personal experience, I wanted to add to your initial statement about “if you’re immediately able to bail yourself out.” I had a bench warrant for a traffic ticket that wasn’t resolved when it should have been (long story). It was in Fremont County in Colorado which is notorious for being the county with the most prisons in the US, including multiple maximum security facilities. I went to the courthouse with a friend and enough money to bail me out. I gave my phone and wallet to my friend and was super cooperative with security. Even with my friend waiting there to bail me out, it took nearly 6 hours for me to be processed in to be immediately processed out. I didn’t have any prior offenses or anything. I spent that time in a holding cell with 5 other people. I’m a pretty positive person so I ended up just having a great conversation with the guys and that time flew by for me.

And went the whole 9 yards (sprayed something in my hair)…I was only in “jail” for about 4-6 hours, but it felt like a damn eternity. Fast forward, maybe a year later— I was sent paperwork saying that there was a lawsuit that I was definitely impacted by because they shouldn’t have done that. I only received like $140 or something because of it. The whole thing was horrible. Not completely relevant (but partially), I was charged with obstruction of justice which was dropped to disturbing the peace… and I actually didn’t do either. The police were trying to enter a friends residence and I stated I couldn’t let them in without a warrant— particularly since it wasn’t my residence. I did call the homeowner, but they didn’t answer. The police had stated that either they were going in to arrest my (then) friend or they were arresting me even though I had done absolutely nothing illegal. Were you in jail or local lockup? if you’re booked into county jail, you’re going to get strip searched. No way around it. Local lockup shouldn’t have, but it doesn’t mean they won’t. More often than not, local lockup isn’t going to go to the trouble of strip searching you, because they’ve already checked for weapons and drugs, and because you won’t be there long enough for it to matter. But Sometimes local PD can be assholes sometimes, and they have the authority to make sure you’re not bringing anything dangerous into their holding cells.
