Nowadays, it feels like anytime I go to the Ballet and dogs make me happy humans shirt moreover I will buy this mall or to a cafe or a similar casual place, I could throw a rock and hit someone with something “alternative” about their aesthetic. There are a LOT more people, especially adults 30+, who have colored hair. I see a lot more tattoos, and moderately more piercings. I see way more teens and Gen Z folks whose fashion choices are obviously inspired by goth, rockabilly, cyberpunk, new age, anime, grunge, you name it. Cottagecore has been an especially fun one to see leak into IRL mainstream stores. It does still seem like alternative styles are “overrepresented” online, in that their popularity online doesn’t exactly translate to the same level of real-world participation or visibility. But I definitely appreciate seeing more of it out and about 🙂
