With that said, I still enjoy our families and the Baby Yoda Tree Merry Christmas Gift shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this one thing that definitely unites us is our want to socialize and have some drinks. People act like white Americans don’t have culture because they’re literally inculcated in white American culture. That’s why the critique doesn’t make any sense. If you’re here in the United States of America then on some level you are coming into contact with the culture of white American people. We’re also an amalgam of cultures, plural. Native culture (as much as we white people have tried to eradicate it) influences a lot. Same with Spanish/Mexican culture, again we whites rail against the people but gladly accept the cuisine, holidays, language cues, and architecture. Every country that people have emigrated from has contributed to our shared heritage. So it’s kind of hard to see what American culture is. It is one big smoothie of other things all blended together.

As a white male American, I can’t say for sure what my “culture” IS exactly, but I’ll gladly include elements of it, that come from all over the world and end up at my doorstep. I don’t appropriate these things, but I do appreciate them. * Frank’s wife Paula and their sons and daughters were close friends to my family growing up, so I admit a little bit of bias with regards to his work. The Mechau family are wonderful people, specifically Frank’s son Michael and his wife Blakely, who encouraged me to attend school in New Mexico rather than at a ‘tech college’ in California. As a “white” growing up outside the USA I notice the white USA culture all too well and I keep it at arms length. It’s a mountain of BS all the way down. There is many shades of whiteness and my southern European “whiteness” hidden under my Mediterranean tan as I grew up only gave me the position of “honorary” white – not “true” white – amongst some and no better that those African-American or Hispanic-American or Asian-American that kisses Trump’s ass to earn their badge as “honorary” white USA citizens. The “white” propaganda of the USA conservative right is stomach churning sickening. It’s worst when the Christians that are suppose to recognize we are all God’s children also buy into that propaganda. Anyway that’s what happens when xenophobia is allowed to dominate the cultural landscape.

There’s very little white people do culturally in the US that is both uniquely American and created by white people. because most american culture is a mix of a bunch of different cultures. a lot of people assume because a culture isn’t 100% original that it just isn’t a culture. “white americans have no culture” is just wrong because everyone has culture, and if it isn’t culture from their ancestors (like immigrants i suppose i’m not sure how else to phase it) then it’s culture from the place they live, or a mixture of both

I could be wrong and cringey, but it seems more a case of whites not really having a homogenous culture like others do. As a person who’s American with grandparents from the Azores island & lives in a city with many Azoreans & Portuguese people it really depends on the city & state. I always noticed that white Americans whose grandparents or great grandparents who immigrated to the U.S. usually can speak their native language or are really immersed in their culture. My city has a Portuguese celebration every year with many different Portuguese food, dance, & everything Portuguese. American Diaspora’s is different for everyone because some came to the U.S. during the early years of colonization & some came later to Elise island like my grandparents for example.

When my order was ready the boss brought it out to me and I decided that the young lady needed complimenting so I told her boss how impressed I was with her conduct and manners. The boss then told me “it is only her second week, she is doing extremely well”. I didn’t really clock it initially but after leaving it registered that she has been there far longer than two weeks. It seemed like such a weird thing for the boss to be untruthful about.IDK, I never hear this shit about the extremely distinct Black American culture. I don’t hear anybody going “but there is no black culture there’s Jamaican culture and Ugandan culture and other cultures – black isn’t a real culture”. But you hear this with white people all the time, how there’s no white culture there’s British culture and German culture and whatever.
I presume it’s basically just reactionaries responding to reactionaries saying we need to protect white culture from *WHATEVER NEW THING IS HAPPENING*. Because they are (for the most part), quite removed from their original cultures, which doesn’t mean they don’t have one but rather its boundaries are blurried. There is no “white American culture”- large country with a large population we have tons of little ones. Your not a “white American” you’re from Louisiana, and have your own accent separate from an American accent, and slightly different than a general southern one, or you are a new Yorker. Or you’re from Baltimore. I live south of Philly so I hear jawn a lot. I know a yinzer from rural Pittsburgh even from within pennselvania. Umm, Baseball, Football, Fourth of July, Hollywood, Ford cars, hispanic influence, etc. All of those things have influenced and created an American culture. So that doesn’t make sense. All countries took time to be able to create a “Culture” and even though ours is fairly new, doesn’t mean we don’t have one. So stupid.

Because the real “American” culture is that of the native Americans. The “modern” culture of America is a mix from European nations from where the colonizers and land-thief came from, plus the culture from African slaves. All the dance, folk songs, food, were invented later (19th century onwards) by modifying and mixing older European culture. Cus of stereotypes. When people glorify and celebrate POLITICIANS like it’s a religion there’s not much else to really view other than 0 culture It’s very apparent what the culture is to those of us not fitting the description lol; but the only time I’ve experienced ppl denying it exists is from people in it. They seem to often get irate when you point out THEIR way isn’t the only way (or even the most sensible way or the way some of us like doing things)
