The fact that a couple of German tourists were trying to drive the Atlanta Braves Team Forever Not Just When We Win Signatures Shirt and I love this ~1000km from Cairns to Cape York in the middle of the wet season with nothing but google maps to guide them is probably more the more telling factor here. I had a German friend once post a picture of the pretty woodlands outside her family’s village. Someone commented “It’s very nice but it looks very managed,”. And she replied “Of course it is, it’s been managed since at least 1237.” It’s the same reason why all the crocodile warning signs are in German first, then English. They say around 1,000 people are killed by crocs mainly in Australia and Indonesia each year, 73.6% are German. Let a thousand crocs attacks bloom, but I ain’t spending any time on it because in the meantime every three months a German tourists gets lost thanks to Google Maps.

This was the Atlanta Braves Team Forever Not Just When We Win Signatures Shirt and I love this one I was looking for which were actually Austrians and this sounds like a lot of bad luck as they do things we get advised to do, especially in terms of leaving your details. Apparently, the person at the desk couldn’t find the book, started a new book, then left the next day and the usual person didn’t know about the new book and went back to using the old one. We were talking about this on Reddit a few weeks ago and I guess the take home messages included telling multiple people, take more water and stay with the vehicle. It occurs to me that the thing all these “Germans lost in the desert” cases have in common is that they mostly did genuinely make some effort to prepare, it’s just that they grossly underestimated how hostile the conditions would actually be, and made a few key mistakes out of inexperience.
