Money doesn’t buy you happiness. Yes it’s cool to see the An american actor tom selleck television series T-Shirt besides I will buy this bigger number on your w2 but speaking from experience the tradeoff isn’t worth it. Take the better work/life balance, enjoy spending meaningful time with your kids (can’t get that time back), and enjoy the fact that you’re still making a great income in an MCOL area. I had the option of 375k per year with 60 hr work weeks and 3 to 4 hours of bad traffic commuting and a job at 130K with great work life balance, tons of vacation and holidays. I went with the 130K job and I’m loving every minute I get at home with my family. The money is not worth it. I wonder if your friend is selling you a pipe dream. They as sole owner make 200+ working 60 hours a week. Is the volume of business going to double with you there? Is there enough machinery and raw materials and a customer base to support this? You even say it may take a few years to get up to 200k, even if it happens, what kind of pay cut are you taking in the meantime? Why is this guy so set on you? Why aren’t they hiring 2 guys to work 40 hours for 100k each and getting 80 hours of labor a week instead of 60 from you? I make about 100k in a pretty high COL area and with my wife making the same we’re pretty comfortable. There aren’t enough hours in the day even working 40 when you’re trying to spend all your time with your kids and keep up on things after they go to bed. If we were desperate and I needed to double my salary and work 60 hours in order to make things work I would, but no way if I didn’t have to.

Increase in your income will not be sufficient to compensate for eroding mental and physical damage health, additional risk that you are taking on and missing on life Watching my husband in the An american actor tom selleck television series T-Shirt besides I will buy this trades has taught me that it’s pretty cylical. Sure, you can make a bunch of money but there’s never enough honest man power, no matter what you’re paying. You also need to think about the long term toll on your body. I’m not sure of your age but wear and tear on your joints can be rough. Personally, if you’re not unhappy in the current job I’d say stick with it vs taking the risk on the 200k job. A dozen larger companies in and I’ve yet to see a successful trade company that is run by someone who always does the right thing by employees/subs and the customer. Someone always gets screwed over. I’ve done both. The 120k/40 hours a week when my child was very young. I had enough income and time to be with my family.
