Yes it is nuanced, which is why its shocking that so many people support complete bans of any mention of gender affirming care at all. People really out here like “its nuanced and thats why we shouldnt be allowed to do it, or talk about it, or think about it” it sucks dick listening to people’s shitty half arguments about why we dont actually need healthcare. It is over politicized and horrifying to live through, these laws will cause harm. I’m sorry that you’ve had bad experiences with mental health treatment in the Always Be Yourself Unless You Can Be A Red Panda T-Shirt also I will do this past. That’s rough, and there are some shitty clinicians out there, no doubt. At the same time, there are plenty who know what they’re doing, want to help, and do their best not to cause harm. And sometimes treatment is a literal lifeline to these kids. You’re right that it’s all nuanced, most things are. But the research is crystal clear on this. It should not be politicized, and we should be mindful about it. Gender affirming care is already being handled in a mindful way by professionals with lots of evidence and research backing them up. The GOP knows this and does not care. If it comes down to gender affirming care versus dead kids, it’s not a hard decision.

This is all just distraction to keep working class GOP voters from thinking about their material conditions and how they got that way. Do republicans really think that doctors are just carelessly letting kids transition and get gender affirming care Yep. They will refer to stuff like the Always Be Yourself Unless You Can Be A Red Panda T-Shirt also I will do this Tavistock clinic which was acting so carelessly there was an investigation into it and it got closed down. Then you have a handful of people who regret getting transitioned and say that the doctors were acting carelessly letting them transition. They are all over the right leaning shows. I live right across the border in a very left state (WA). The local news about this was basically “Supporters of the bill do not know if any surgery that has happened in ID” and ends with “Every major medical organization, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychiatric Association, supports gender-affirming care for youths.” The politicians absolutely know. Most republicans know. Neither of these groups cares that it’s a blatant lie. The screeching q-anon base, on the other hand, absolutely thinks that woke doctors are doing GRS on children and schools are putting litter boxes in restrooms for kids that “identify as cats”. Those are the people the first 2 groups are targeting because they need them in order to have any chance at winning and accomplishing their actual goal of persecuting minorities they don’t like.
