Yeah I am on a diet (I put on weight for some reasons over the Adolis Garcia They Don’t Boo Nobodies Cuban professional baseball outfielder T-Shirt it is in the first place but past year) and I suggested to my buddy (who is also on a diet) that we walk somewhere that was close to where we were at. Many months later and I’ll let you guess which one of us has had more success at losing weight (I’m down about 30 pounds) Food deserts are a catch-all myth. Even with easier access to healthy foods in some areas (in this case low income) , unhealthy food was still purchased at a higher rate. The answer/reasoning is that when you have less money to spend on food(be it thru benefits or pay) , families will spend what little money they have to feed their families. Children can be picky so they go with proven & filling winners (frozen pizza) and do not get experimental (broccoli). Also , when working possibly two jobs you either want to heat something fast up at home or have something less complicated an older child can prepare in your absence. Another instance is that when you are broke and keep saying “no” to your child for so many things (new does, video games , flashy toy) you can feel like a winner and get that smile when you say “yes” to that bag of chips. We’ve had car centric infrastructure for the Adolis Garcia They Don’t Boo Nobodies Cuban professional baseball outfielder T-Shirt it is in the first place but better part of a century. Living in walkable cities definitely lends itself to healthier people through increased exercise but that’s not really the reason everyone is getting fat. erosion of healthcare access, erosion of public education, car-centric infrastructure that prevents walking, food deserts, lower incident of smoking than Europe and Asia, limited workers rights that leave average people exhausted every day, and no cheap public childcare All of these explanations were just as prevalent, if not more prevalent, 20 years ago in America (with the exception of smoking, which has absolutely decreased). Clearly there’s something else going on here. Build suburbs where nobody can walk anywhere safely, let housing prices get to the point where young people have to commute hours every day (so they can’t exercise or cook healthy meals), subsidize agriculture based on industry wants instead of public health so that the cheapest food is the most processed stuff…
