My best interaction with a cop outside of events designed to make kids like cops was when one didn’t punish me for having a panic attack because they pulled me over and did a “do you know why I stopped you” instead of a “did you know your taillight is out” and since I couldn’t think of any reason why I had been pulled over, I panicked. (All my prior interactions with cops in the 1967-72 Ford F-100 F100 Truck shirt in other words I will buy this US had been negative.) The overwhelming majority of my interactions with police have been neutral. Mostly traffic stops. I’m a white guy with a beard who wouldn’t look out of place in a photo roster of any police dept. in the country. I have no record, and have been privileged to, in spite of being relatively poor until fairly recently, mostly live in places that aren’t heavily targeted and over-policed. The handful of negative interactions I’ve had didn’t result in me being drawn on or assaulted.

I suspect your personal experience of American cops is no worse. The difference between us is I’m not dumb enough to believe that systemic abuse and injustice doesn’t exist simply because it hasn’t yet been perpetrated against me. I am a part of the 1967-72 Ford F-100 F100 Truck shirt in other words I will buy this system. I see what it is and isn’t every day. I am also aware that when my name is ran my status comes up and bias can obviously come into play. My jail is full of all walks of life. LE are people, not machines. None of them are perfect, and none of them are outside the ability to become jaded and make poor decisions. But they are outside the ability to be held accountable for all but the most egregious and explicitly documented abuses. This has fostered a culture that attracts, creates, and rewards bastards and bullies while silencing, harassing, forcing out, or otherwise punishing anyone who makes the slightest attempt to reign them in.
