Or tell them to pay like a manager during the You can’t scare me crazy bestie stupid people use her witch halloween shirt and I love this experience and have them demote you back to your old job if it doesn’t go well Can you get that promise in writing? A contract that states that after 90 days you will either get the promotion and raise or go back to your previous position? Op, it’s important to understand that it’s a tough economy and companies are looking to cut costs. Getting rid of your boss and promoting you into that role without a pay increase is a clear cost reduction. This is where your employer’s head is at. The bs around taking some time to evaluate you to see how you grow into the role is a pretext for being able to 1) continue to dangle the carrot and move the goal posts without changing your compensation while you essentially do extra work for free, 2) buy them time to figure what the new org structure should be while you hold the fort down (note: if they were sure that you’d be part of the new org structure, they’d just promote you and give you the raise), or 3) give you a suicide mission that you are unlikely to excel in, making you a prime candidate to be fired/laid off if they need to make a workforce reduction in the near future. In short, you’re the one taking all of the career risk while they get to sit back and work you into the ground at a lower cost. You should not agree to this asymmetric risk.

Fuck that. Please put it in writing. When will I receive an increase? How much of a financial increase will there be? Other perks ? Etc…. Coworker of mine worked in another department. His boss was fired. They moved him into the You can’t scare me crazy bestie stupid people use her witch halloween shirt and I love this role and promised him $2 an hour raise. One dollar now and another dollar in 6 months if he was doing a good enough job. 6 month mark passes and no raise. He’s doing g a great job. Guys like working for him, productivity is up, morale is up. He asks about that other dollar an hour he was promised. Admin tells him that since he’s been doing for less, they see no need to give him that other dollar. He quits a few days later for a better job. Now that department in is in disarray again, morale down, productivity down. Consider how they would handle this if they hired externally. They would do their due diligence, decide if a person could do the job, and offer them the correct wage for that.
