Sure the various churches may hype it up with scary stories or imply your own marriage will mean less or whatever–but it all boils down to them thinking that they know the truth, only them, and it’s their duty to enforce it. Because it is a minority policy issue. Hence people who face discrimination and want this to end can only achieve this through public discourse convincing the majority that this is an issue for them. For which it is mandatory to talk about it. After which policymakers will introduce explicit legislation in order to make sure that the generalized legislation not only counts for this minority group but gets understood by the public and courts and is also followed. Which is why they will have to use these words as well. Now it’s not the word the group wants so rinse and repeat the cycle. However, I have always been against using explicit legislation anyways. Cause it feels kinda wrong to say everyone has the right to… and then follow it up with, or add an amendment stating group xyz is included by everyone… well yes. Obviously. And if it is not obvious, just make rewrite the initial legislation in order to generalize and include everyone. Even people we don’t even discuss atm that we are discriminating against them. And if you want to make a rule for that specific group… please don’t. This only gets implemented wrong. Use generalization so it applies to everyone.

It’s an edge issue. Most of these leaders are hypocrites. They couldn’t care less. But it’s a issue that evokes strong emotion, and strong emotion is a useful tool if you’re a shit corrupt politician. There’s no bottom to how corrupt, self-dealing one can be, if everything they need to be re-elected is to pass some token law that will, at most, “hurt the Yeaahhh that’s be great T-Shirt besides I will buy this right people”. These bills will keep happening until it gets through to young people that their potential voting power is far greater than the fundies and cranks who the GQP are passing these bills for. This has always been the case. The people who ALWAYS get fucked are ALWAYS the ones who do not show up at the polls. ALWAYS!
