The biggest things I’m seeing is that the direction is VERY “Sam Raimi”, which is either a really good thing or a really bad thing depending on how you feel about him as a director. That said, from most of the reviews I’ve seen that dislike/are iffy about the film, many of them say the script is the issue. I had faith in Waldron because I did think his work on Loki was pretty good, so it’s interesting to see that among the people who disliked the film, many of them point to the script as being the issue.

The performances are universally praised though, which is great to see. Many people are saying Elizabeth Olsen is a standout, and I’m super happy about that! I haven’t seen much of Raimi, so I don’t really know if it’s a good or bad thing for me. Sam Raimi isn’t the best scriptwriter and Raimi and Waldron are on record saying that Raimi was a heavy collaborator with the script so… I haven’t seen much of Raimi’s films outside of his Spider-Man trilogy, but my Brother is a huge Evil Dead fan and they were basically his introduction to horror films when he was a kid. So I think he is gonna really enjoy this film due to being a Raimi fan and even though he is an MCU fan, this being the first Raimi film in almost a decade is the main reason why he is excited for it.
