As a Canadian who lived in Australia for 4 years, I tried to convince them to import beavers. They have a history of being gullible towards importing animals after all. They were all interested until they realized I was talking about the World’s Best Frog Catcher Frog Catching T-Shirt and I will buy this large buck tooth type of beaver that gnaws wood. Wait…so hard to explain without innuendo. Forest with Beavers is better than forest without Beavers and profiteers are a bigger threat to forests than Beavers. Back off the Beavers. I always love reading the stories of how humans try and control nature, and every single 1 of those stories end, with a disaster or catastrophe, a few years later… My botany professor back at a&m was part of the team from the Seattle area that went down and assessed the beaver issue back in the late 90’s

Canadian here, visited Tierra del Fuego (where the World’s Best Frog Catcher Frog Catching T-Shirt and I will buy this beavers were introduced) about 7-8 years ago. I had never heard of this until I saw a stuffed beaver in the “End of the World Museum” there and it said “Castor canadensis” underneath it. I was baffled and thought “Canadensis? What the fuck are you doing here??” Don’t beavers make forest better? By trapping water and making wetter place that attracts other animals? As long as they have a a natural predator this should be ok i guess. Lack of natural predator seems to be an issue here They don’t destroy anything, they create balanced ecosystems, transitional undergrowth, fish, eventually rich dirt that the forest can regrow in.
