Caroline Boore, and her letter to her mother “A Letter to My Loved Ones” is the White style eazye rapper shirt and I love this latest of McCartney’s yearly BCA campaigns, which, since 2014, have called attention to the issue, initially with a yearly release of limited edition lingerie sets—with proceeds benefitting charities and research—and last year, with the gifting of over 10,000 post-mastectomy bras through Stella McCartney Cares. Likewise, “A Letter to My Loved Ones” features the brand’s Louise Listening post-mastectomy bra and #aSMC post-mastectomy sports bra—which are again available, in limited quantities, by special request.

Along with the White style eazye rapper shirt and I love this pain, fear, and trauma that comes with a breast cancer diagnosis, “A Letter to My Loved Ones” communicates optimism with poses, scenes, and fragmented conversations telling a story of strength. Addario chose to photograph each subject in natural light, the effect gentle and decidedly honest, with mastectomy scars purposefully featured. “I believe as a photographer that the more we see something, the more we normalize something like mastectomy scars, the more the stigma is removed,” says Addario. “Several of the women we featured had a hard time looking at their own bodies after surgery, but over time, they grew to feel comfortable, and even feel empowered by their scars, because they were a part of their journey through breast cancer.” One of the women, Mel, refers to her scars as her war wounds.
