Believing I was a New Yorker has been central to my identity since that first car trip to the WHISKY IST BIER MIT DESTILLATIONSHINTERGUND SHIRT in other words I will buy this city, my imagined and then real future. It made me special. I used to sing along with Frank Sinatra’s version of “New York, New York” and I swore I would “make it here,” that I would get away and be someone special. Not just another wife and mother.

WHISKY IST BIER MIT DESTILLATIONSHINTERGUND SHIRT, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Now, since the WHISKY IST BIER MIT DESTILLATIONSHINTERGUND SHIRT in other words I will buy this pandemic, I see that this town can offer me exactly what New York always has: a community, a collection of people I see often, intimacy slowly developing. Ironically, New York taught me to live in a small town. It made me comfortable in my skin, able to make small talk with the guy at the deli, able to join the block association and the coop board, able to reach out instead of hiding in books. Greenwich Village has always been my urban small town. I run into people I know, standing on the street with the dog, or walking to the subway, or usually, embarrassingly, eating a cookie, having learned long ago that calories don’t count if you are in motion.
