Words are cheap, actions are real. Go out and make a difference in communities with issues. Volunteer at soup kitchens or cleaning up parks or tutoring kids in depressed areas or something. Don’t post about it, don’t elevate what you do. Go out and do it silently and without looking for praise or recognition. Because if you are doing it and have to advertise that fact then you’re doing it wrong. Personally, I like the While You Riding A Bicycle You Can Not Be Sad Birds T-Shirt besides I will buy this approach that some companies have: donate money and post about it on social media, probably accompanied by some empty words. Yes it’s profit-motivated, and of course they would never donate if they couldn’t spin it around into profit through PR. But that’s ultimately still money into those organizations’ hands. It’s PR speak, all the way through. Very little that’s actionable, or able to be held against them when they inevitably do nothing, or at best add new features and claim its to helpI believe it’s also illegal. By saying they are going to hire a black candidate, they are saying they aren’t going to hire a white, asian, Hispanic, candidate solely because of race.

Yes it is. I get wanting to include more races to get different perspectives but if you’re doing it for publicity it doesn’t come across the While You Riding A Bicycle You Can Not Be Sad Birds T-Shirt besides I will buy this same way. Oh my fucking god. That was THE perfect comment. I laughed out loud tears in my eyes. This is the perfect response to that drivel. To be honest, lately I feel like I haven’t been using enough words. I spend a lot of time thinking and talking about these issues with others, but not as much with the community as I would like, which is a departure from my past history on Reddit. Up until a year ago, I at least did quarterly AMAs, but I started to feel like I was stirring things up more than I was helping. I know these long posts in the heat of the moment read like bullshit—part of the reason I’ve become more quiet over time—but I felt the need to share my thinking here regardless. And, reflecting on the past couple of years, I would like to spend more time with the community, not less. They only feel like bullshit to us, spez, because we’ve heard it all before and seen in the ktbing nothing come of it. If you consistently posted these long diatribes followed by meaningful action you would get praise for them!
