You’re there to express your opinion, if asked for, but you cannot block/ vocally oppose his decision. It will just look like a drama. In Vietnam, in-laws can band together and strike a collective decision against a man’s/woman’s future spouse choice. It doesn’t work that way here; you’ll just create more stress for yourself and even rifts among other in-laws over this. You don’t have to worry about how she texts your FIL incessantly and calling him Dad; people should know that’s weird behavior in general without you pointing out. That said, there’s nothing wrong with pulling him aside and having a level headed conversation over coffee with him “hey how are things going with your gf? Any concerns? What’s your long term plan?” And be supportive and offer advice / your opinion if he asks for yours. Even better, have your husband have that brother-to-brother conversation and convey your opinions for you through that.

It was unreasonable for your BIL to flip out over that. She finally divorced her husband? In that 3 weeks span? That’s really odd. She never wanted to break up for the family’s view of it. Then suddenly “to hell with what my family thinks…let’s divorce.” That’s weird. I’d want to see the paperwork for that divorce. Money for the kid? Usually I’m used to hearing the woman asks for money from the *ex-husband. But good step-Fathers will help out of course. The flag depends on who the child is staying with: mom or dad. If with the mom, then as long as she isn’t sending the money to the ex, that’s ok. There’s not much you can do. :/ Just don’t give her any of your money. If everyone else wants to, they can give her money.
