I started a new channel recently, a bit half-hearted as I’m short of time but this time I promoted it nowhere. Zero impressions on day one – it might have made me panic if I was desperate for the When life throws you scraps make a quilt shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this channel to do well. But 10 videos in, I’m now getting almost as many impressions as I do on my channel with 170 videos and 1.6k subs, and half of my views in the new channel are from the holy grail of the “suggested videos”. Sub/view count is still small on my new channel, but it’s proved to me – YT WILL push my videos even if I do nothing to push them myself. Yeah, this is definitely true once you get past a certain threshold (like 6 months of somewhat consistent posting), but before that you can help get yourself started if you manage to post in subreddits that will actually want to watch it. You’re kind of training the algo on where to start if you do that. But it’s a really bad idea to post anywhere else for the reasons you said.

Like when I started, my channel was only getting recommended on true crime videos, but my channel is political commentary. The algo doesn’t initially know anything at all, even if you have good SEO Yep, for my main channel at the When life throws you scraps make a quilt shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this beginning I was getting suggested on weird stuff like shopping videos! It’s a bit better now but probably only 50/50 suggested videos from somewhere fitting. On my new channel, which I never pushed outside YT, about 80% of recommendations come from a logical source. I recently posted a video on a different account on a subredddit, I asked the mods in advance if it was ok to post it there and I got positive reception form the sub in general. Thanks for your reply. Question about that, how do you not get banned? I just made a parody video about how to get 30+ Tinder dates per month, but when I posted it to the sub reddits on dating, they were not happy lol.
