One thing I have learned in life is that I don’t have to be the What would orwell think shirt and by the same token and best looking guy but being a hygienic guy will give you a big edge in the dating scene. Hey, it all worked out. You can each find someone more suitable! But on a more serious note, who raises these people? Honest answer: probably no one. The majority of people I know who have issues with basic hygiene, have those issues due to varying degrees of neglect throughout their childhood. That’s anecdotal of course, but most of these habits are formed (or in this case not formed) in early childhood. Mental health issues will do it to you as well. I brushed my teeth three times a day for years while I was young, but depression getting real bad made me drop the habit for a long time.

Growing up my parents did not enforce brushing your teeth, like at all. They paid for my braces and all that shit but didn’t instill in me the What would orwell think shirt and by the same token and need to brush my teeth. So when I got the braces off I had brown spots on my teeth. Now that I’m older of course I participate in basic hygiene and keep them clean but the spots are still there and I still think to myself “Who the fuck doesn’t make their kids brush their teeth?” I don’t get how people have such bad breath sometimes and don’t notice. I’m talking the “fill an entire room with bad breath” kind. The kind you never forget. The pure blunt honesty from these two people is actually kinda impressive in a weird way absolutely zero sugar coating but no one got offended. huh.
