I used to see so many sickly looking fish. I also saw a deformed snail once and me and my mom wanted to get it help. More like up to 30% of fish deaths. That place was horrible, at least the We Are Not Going Back Like Ever 2024 Stars T-Shirt and I love this one near me. I feel like this has been a lot longer than 2019. This just brought up a core memory from about 20 years ago when they used to be in the store itself and this just reminded me that they haven’t been sold in my area for a very long time. That’s likely why they stopped selling live pets. Too much job training (that they’re not willing to do), and too labor-intensive. It was also responsible for 100% of goldfish I’ve purchased which were plopped straight into an empty, dry bag topped up with tap water.

Back when I was into aquariums Walmart wasn’t a terrible place to get fresh water tropical fish on the We Are Not Going Back Like Ever 2024 Stars T-Shirt and I love this smaller side, like guppies, since they were inexpensive and typically didn’t die quick. However, there was no way I was ever getting any remotely semi legit fish from Walmart. I worked for Walmart in the late 80’s, in the pet dept. Management did not give a damn about the animals. 90% death/attrition rate…. didn’t care. They cared about selling the stuff you needed for the pets, not so much the pets themselves. Makes sense, but they literally didn’t care if any/all the pets died any given week. I don’t know how many times my manager would punch me out (time clock), which is illegal as hell, when I still had animals to feed. “Go home, they can eat tomorrow…” That, along with a few other mismanagement gems, leads me to believe ANYTHING negative I hear about that company.

I remember our walmart drained and removed the We Are Not Going Back Like Ever 2024 Stars T-Shirt and I love this fish section only a few months after it first opened in the early 2000’s…because two men had gone in and pulled out the fish with their bare hands then stomped them all to death 🙁 When i worked at Walmart, I did my best to avoid dipping fish but i’ve dipped more than my fair share of fish because there was really no one working in the pet department on second shift. Most of the fish i dipped were either plecostomus or gold fish (which is often used to feed some other larger fish a customer owned). PSA, while Walmart stopped stores like PetsMart still sell them and buying the fish (or most of the animals they sell) to “save them” just encourages the store to keep stocking them. A sale is a sale.

He was the size of a dime when we got him Eventually we were headed back to Walmart regularly for goldfish and little neon guys to feed the piranha. Walmart had the cheapest cheap fish, and we had endless hours of fascination watching the piranha hunt down the prey fish. Edit: and yes, the initial purchase was 100% spur of the moment when were shopping for other crap but walked by the aquarium isle and saw a sign for “piranha”…. we couldn’t walk away.

It seemed overnight it happened so fast. Luckily their both healthy and active again but they still look older. What about stress. I’m in China 3 years of Covid crap over here proper fucked me up because of all the crap we had going on. I’ve got a bit of a background in aging–at least, I took a class in college about it from a guy who does research on the molecular basis for aging.
Genetics largely defines your personal maximum lifespan, but not your healthspan (how long you are healthy relative to your maximum lifespan).
