If they’re anything like they are here in the Warming The Planet Is Not Cool T-Shirt besides I will buy this US, they’re a huge nuisance, terribly unsafe. There are no local or national laws on their use, so it’s pretty typical to see them used both on the sidewalks and in the streets. Their speed combined with a generally unskilled rider makes them dangerous to pedestrians on waking paths, and many people don’t know or follow traffic laws when riding them in the streets. On top of all that, they just get left anywhere when they’re not being used, cluttering up storefronts, parks, etc. If you live in a population-dense area the scooters are recklessly discarded in public spaces. They litter the roads blocking sidewalks, bike lanes, corner crossings, sometimes falling into the street. This is a real problem for wheelchairs and bikes and poses a legal concern for the municipality. The university by me banned them before the city.

And this is ignoring any of their safety-related issues while operating, which are fast, silent, without lights, and often by drunk people in lieu of driving, through population dense areas with crowds. Yep and sort out the bikes…they should have to be left in racks not left just anywhere. Absolute menace for blind people. In Germany you have to photograph them when you park it, to ensure it’s parked at the edge. I’m all for bike racks everywhere though. There’s car parking everywhere, and you could park a dozen bikes in the same spot you park one car. Basically what it has felt like. Slowly they’ve just been tossed everywhere, taken apart, put in streets and on car roofs and whatever other stupid thing bored people think of. It’s a shame cause it is otherwise a good idea. It helped me get places when I couldn’t afford a car and the bus would’ve made me walk really far
