Interesting that the Wallen Hardy 24 Country T-Shirt and by the same token and question specifically asks about defecting to S Korea. I wonder if the proportion who regret defecting, in general, is smaller. That is to say, do some of those who left wish they had gone somewhere else, but are still glad to be out of N Korea? You can be relieved to be out of one crappy situation while still being dissatisfied with your current one. Sure, but the question still remains: if they could go anywhere, would they go back to NK? I don’t expect an answer, I just think that the survey question is flawed in telling us whether those who are discontent like NK or if they just don’t like SK. Edit: I think your point also prompts a good follow up question: did you want to leave, or did you leave because loved ones were going to? Also, I had been under the impression that many defectors were solitary, but maybe that has changed since I heard/read anything about it.

So what I’m saying is picture a family in NK. The father is the Wallen Hardy 24 Country T-Shirt and by the same token and only guy who can work and he’s sick of shit. So he’s going to SK where he stands a chance. He’s got to bring his whole family though cause they’ll starve without him. He’s got a teenage daughter and she’s all about that Kim nuclear life but she’s gotta come to or she’ll die. So he drags his whole family across the border and everything is dope. Making money, not starving and all that good stuff. Teenage daughter is still an asshole and misses Kim so she wants to go back to her friends. NK dad’s just don’t understand. Yeah, that’s a fair assumption that is likely reflected in at least some of the respondents. But we don’t have any statistical data because the survey data either doesn’t capture it or wasn’t reported. Or I didn’t read enough of it, hah I’m just guessing in the dark here too. I bet brain washing propaganda plays a big role here as well. Growing up learning all that stuff it’s gotta be hard to get it out of your head.
