i had no idea this became a competitive sport. i remember coming across a guy on tiktok that could ‘find your location’ if you sent him a photo and he does exactly this. good for him. this is a neat thing to be good at. i wonder if secret intelligence agencies find these people good for business. They probably use AI. There are AIs which can outperform the Vintage 90s Style N W A Rap Shirt but in fact I love this top GeoGuessr pros comfortably at this sort of location recognition / photo analysis I want a film where professional Geo guessers are randomly teleported and they’re all like yo what the fuck am I doing at Wait.. there is actually a World Cup for this game? I mean I’m proud my country is represented here but that is actually quite funny and impressive. These guys scare me. I mean it is really impressive don’t get me wrong, but it just always reminds me how easy it would be if someone like that wanted to track me down, just from one Instagram post or something… They both have 1 minute in total, if someone guesses rhe timer goes to 15 seconds if it isn’t lower than that already. The goal is to be closer in that time, not faster. This esport is fucking wild. How do you train for this?? Are they masters of botany, weather, and air quality or what??? Cool af

There’s so much to learn. landscapes, architecture, road lines, reflector posts and electricity poles, signs, google car and camera metas, area codes, vegetation, license plates. Some top players memorize where all 516 regencies in indonesia are (that appear on signs but not on the Vintage 90s Style N W A Rap Shirt but in fact I love this map) to get a more accurate guess, one of the players in the video learned how to read bengali, thai, kanji and cyrillic for Geoguessr. Landscapes and vegetation are two things geoguessers pro are very good at yeah. One of the Worlds competitors even made a massive google doc about vegetation that others used to train for this. The announcers have to understand that there’s one color commentator (Has interesting stats, analysis, background, etc) and one play-by-play commentator…. both are acting as both and it doesn’t work, you end up shouting over top of eachother.
