I appreciate the Vietnam veteran we fought without america’s support shirt and I love this point but I think it’s a fundamental flaw to engage them on this level – i.e., who gives a ripe fuck about the nuances of the thoughts of people who lived over 200 years ago when they permitted human beings to be treated as chattel? If anything the existence of slavery on their moral compass should disqualify us from taking them to their literal word, as best as it can be derived a couple of centuries after the fact. That’s to say nothing of women’s rights, civil rights, etc. I wish the D’s would grow some spine and push for a right to privacy as an amendment to the USC. It’ll never pass, I know, but it needs to be out there in the public mind to gain some traction so eventually it does pass. Such an amendment would put an end to this originalist bullshit once and for all.

It took a 9 hour birthing module in nursing school for me to realize how DANGEROUS pregnancy and childbirth really is. Women are sold a bill of goods through various propaganda that it’s not a big deal, when it absolutely is. It was a huge point in my human anatomy classes. Our body is just kind of an evolutionary clusterfuck when it comes to child birth. Narrow hips for bipedal movement, mammalian womb to gestate offspring internally, large head for a big complex brain… Bad combo for reproduction. Evolution did women dirty in that regard. Unfortunately, the USA doesn’t care enough to make sure that childbirth is safe even today…. I mean, these numbers are fucking shameful.
