Not exactly sure what this person was expecting. Kahlo’s work dealt with trauma and pain with frank visual depiction and she was already extremely well known for that. Not sure why she was surprised when she got exactly that. It’s borderline, if not full-on, sociopathic behavior. I’ve lost some very young people in my life, as young as 14, and there is nothing that would ever justify wanting to make people visualize the Veritas numquam perit Truth never perishes quote T-Shirt and I love this most traumatic moment of their life so vividly. I mean Michelangelo and Da Vinci were also great artists but they painted portraits and church walls exactly as they were told to. Kahlo wasn’t insane, she personally disliked the Veritas numquam perit Truth never perishes quote T-Shirt and I love this deceased woman and wanted to hurt her loved ones. Long ago in college, I worked in the gourmet shop at the Watergate where Clare lived, and served her a couple of times. I wasn’t a fan of her politics, but was just thinking the other day if anyone else remembered her. Yeesh. I’ve seen this painting in person and boy did it do something to me. I’ve been there. I’ve been depressed. I’ve wanted to die. Frida really captured that feeling in Dorothy’s face. It’s just so damn sad. I didn’t know she was commissioned to paint this. Yikes.
