I saw a tornado / twister thing walking home from school. The worm was at least 18in, maybe 2ft, and as thick as a finger. Never thought I’d be in the position of “I froze and couldn’t react” but I was genuinely too astonished to do anything. It shimmied under a fence and was gone.

I was looking up earthworm facts with my kid recently. I must have been about 13 at the time, I’m 30 now and nothing can convince me that I didn’t see a bear that day. A few months later, a zoo opened up about 2 minutes down the motorway from where I saw it, and they have bears. There’s also a veterinary University on the same stretch of motorway, so I don’t think it’s as impossible as my family try to make it out to be. Still to this day, we can’t travel past that spot without someone mentioning the bear. I just tell them “I know what I saw” while giving them the middle finger. Of course I looked in, it was black. Gave the handle a crank and low and behold it started to wind on a Victorian nude peep show with ladies dancing naked.
