History. I started becoming sedentary shortly after high school. I took an office job, and started becoming lazy, relying on fast food, and just sitting at a keyboard all day. This resulted in a weight of 320 lbs at the UTSA Roadrunners 2023 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl Champions Shirt and I will buy this age of 40. Fast forward, 2020. My wife “HS sweetheart” had a trip/fall and broke her leg. She was a type 2 diabetic, so the ortho recommended surgery as opposed to casting so that no skin ulcers develop. Surgery went well, recovery not so much. Being at the tail end of COVID, visitation restrictions were still in place. As such, I could only be with her for 2-3 hours a day. Anyways, due to multiple aspirations, and lung infections, she eventually passed on. After a few months of depression, something made me start dancing. This led me to Zumba at a local gym. Over time, I realized that I felt great after class, and started venturing into other aspects “weight training, HIIT, Barre, Yoga” Initially, I was misguided. I started fitness with making myself more attractive. As my journey progressed, I stopped caring about how I look, and started caring about how I feel.

As of today, I am 45, exercising consistently for 2 years. 172 lbs with only dietary change and exercise “no gastric, drugs, or plan”. Considerably stronger than I was. Not strongman or pro athlete level, but a level that gives me more mobility, flexibility, endurance, and stamina “not speaking sexually”. Beside, I’m not looking for bulk. I realized that the exercise was the endorphin and dopamine rush I needed, and just kept doing it. Part of it for me is that I get exposed too old people all the time as part of my profession & the ones that made fitness part of their lives standout sharply. It’s impossible to STOP the aging process, but it is possible to slow it to a crawl. The great dividing line appears to be the age of 40 for most people, at that point muscle atrophy kicks into overdrive.
