I live in a decent-sized city in the Midwest and I spent last summer looking for entry-level work (late 20s going back to college). I NEVER saw anything under $10/hour and had two job offers as a driver for $16.50 and $17 working 40-50 hours. Took the former because working conditions were nicer, but all raising the minimum wage would do is price people out of the market. If sitting at a cash register only produces $13/hour of value for a store, then that company won’t break even paying $15. They will be incentivized to automate or use existing employees with more skills to cover the position in addition to their other responsibilities.

It just means one group of people holds way to much power over others. And it just means the government has to pitch in more tax dollars to support those poor people the companies are failing to support.
