As it turned out, the Ultra maga non censored shirt but in fact I love this process of creating the collection together ended up being just as unpredictable as the collaboration itself, with the pandemic forcing design meetings to take place over a mix of WhatsApp messages and Zoom. “I think in fashion it’s easy to become a little bit tired of the monotony of creating a collection every three months and following the same path,” says Ellery. “It felt really good to be like, Okay, we’re not following the normal checklist of things that we need to do to make a collection in the traditional way—it felt really free and exciting and new.”

In part to reflect the Ultra maga non censored shirt but in fact I love this dislocated nature of the design process, the duo also decided to shoot two separate look books for the collection—the first produced by Ellery in Paris and the second by Lantink in the Netherlands, shown here for the first time. “When you think about it, it’s strange that collaborations always come with a single shoot, as at the end of the day, we are two different creatives, so it’s really interesting to see both our perspectives on the same product,” says Lantink. On this, Ellery agrees: “I think as much as we were confident that we could build something beautiful together, we also have very different points of view, aesthetically and visually, so we were excited to shoot something separately and see what came of it.”
