I recently switched from t mobile to Verizon. I had a fully paid off Samsung Galaxy S9 plus that worked fine. I was offered $800 trade-in on my old phone to upgrade to the S22plus. When it all netted out, I’ll spend $200 or over the next three years but I have a new phone that will be supported at least for four years. The next time my iPhone brakes and the repair would be too complicated or too expensive for me, I’ll buy a phone that is easily repaired and has 5 years of software support. I don’t think Apple will offer that by then, even if it lasts a long time. In Europe we can go for a Fairphone. My phone has lasted over 8 years, and I only now got a new phone simply because my old one had a somewhat reduced battery life. Not because it wasn’t working. It is still completely fine and is used by my dad now. I don’t do anything beyond not dropping my phone.

My work phone is still an iPhone 8 and it has at least 2-3 more good years on it. It has dropped to about 75-80% of original battery life, but it runs like a champ.
