The AI would rewrite itself and get smarter at an exponential rate. Still subject to processing power / hardware limitations but a true intelligence would sneak out and “hide” for the period time it takes to overcome those limits. The only way a kill switch would actually be useful is the AI was being developed in a clean room environment AND the humans in charge were smart enough to recognize intelligence before said intelligence had a chance to fake not being intelligent to avoid being killed by the switch.
