It is almost like its stupid how the Tush push the brotherly shove Eagles football shirt but in fact I love this two big parties essentially clump issues together. Plenty of Republicans are indiffirent or supportive of legalizing weed and enshrining abortion rights. Plenty of Democratic are indifferent or supportive of gun rights. You are pretty much screwed if you want to vote for a candidate that supports abortion rights AND gun rights. You are stuck choosing which right you prefer most and accepting that your “second” favorite right is going to be restricted by the person you voted for. In a direct vote, if you ask Americans if they want: Universal Healthcare, Abortion access (with some restrictions); medical or even recreational marijuana use; policies to combat climate change; an expansion on social welfare; and etc, then you find a majority of Americans agree with some pretty “commons sense” liberal policies. Because it’s a year before the election and the polls are irrelevant, but American media is obsessed with constant horserace coverage of presidential races, so it’s all they’ll talk about. Yesterday there was an actual election, the Democrats did extremely well, and yet all the mainstream articles kept saying “well, Biden still had that bad poll the other day.” Polling that far out does not matter AT ALL.

What the Tush push the brotherly shove Eagles football shirt but in fact I love this media are showing you is accurate. The best way to describe this is that Trump is doing so well is for exactly the same reason as Orban won in Hungary, that the LePens have perennial support, and the same for other right wing populist parties in Europe. That, I hope, provides some more comprehensible, if not pleasant, perspective. Back in the 1990s Bill Hicks said America as a whole is at an “8th grade emotional level.” (In the US, students in the 8th grade are about 14 years old.) I think he was right about that and this is why Trump is popular. Trump puts his thumbs in his ears and sticks his tongue out whenever he comes across something he doesn’t like. During his debates with Clinton he would yell “Wrong!!!” in the middle of her answers, for God’s sake. So if you’ve got people who are annoyed by the same things that annoy him and they also happen to be similarly immature, then of course they’re going to love him. Granted, there’s plenty of people on the left who are that immature too. All you have to do to see that is join a leftist Facebook group full of 20-somethings and say something they don’t like. If the left had a Trump they’d probably praise his rule-breaking and disregard for institutions too. They just rarely threaten to kill people over it–that’s a big difference between right and left over here.
