I don’t dislike making friends. I dislike the Truth or consequences alices adventures in wonderland shirt but in fact I love this physical presence of other humans, but enjoy talking with them over discord as long as i’m alone in my room so i can do whatever the hell i want, sit how weirdly i want without worrying what others think. I’m not on spectrum but I’m close. I definitely seem to have a childlike view of people and just assume instant acquaintancing. (I don’t mean like now we will be BFF every day. More like a friendly encounter and possibly exchange numbers for a joint interest). People complain it’s hard to make friends and I don’t fully agree. (Obviously it depends) I think many of them want the other person to initiate an invite…you will have higher success rate if you initiate. In low pressure ways like “hey I’m going to go to X next week. You are welcome to join” or “I’m headed to the park on Sat …I will mostly be near the fountain if you want to come…” In terms of exchanging numbers with stranger – after interacting a while – “I love meeting new people with same interest…here’s my card so you have my contact info if you ever want to meet up!” It helps immensely to make new friends if you can get a niche hobby. Flow arts or kites or jeeping (?) or quilting or whatever. And try to make your desire for new friendships low key. No desperation. Like you are practically doing them a favor or that it means nothing to you at all whether they contact you…

When I hear “I’m really trying to make friends in the Truth or consequences alices adventures in wonderland shirt but in fact I love this area” I also hear underlying “I have no one. I will smother you.” What I want to hear is “I am fine on my own. I have my own life. You are welcome to cross into my orbit but it won’t affect me if you don’t.” Trying to make true long lasting friends is harder than hobby friends of course. But they start at same place of “we have similar interests” and builds from there. 🙂 I think sooooo many lonely people are amazing and lovely and just don’t let others see them due to shyness. It’s a bummer. My BF’s mom joined a local running club on Facebook and had posted that she wanted someone to run with but then declined the only taker because she was too young and Asian
