I was never trusted with my feelings, situations that happens or even with my dreams so I just stopped talking about nearly anything. I always make sure that them know I would believe, trust and listen to them no matter what I didn’t beat my children, or ever say “because I said so”. There was always a reason, explanation, etc. Understanding why something is wrong helps immensely in my opinion. My parents made me feel guilty for being bullied as a kid. They gave me the usual “advice” not to listen, to ignore the bullies, and to be the “bigger person” and I know that they probably didn’t believe what I told them happened daily. Frustrated by my crying and coming home with bruises and all that, sometimes they scolded me publicly and even hit me once or twice.

They never spoke to me about my education after high school. I made sure my kids knew their options loooong before they even got to high school. College or university, no other options. I was talked down and declared a useless nobody by my step-father for over a decade, what kicked me into depression… so I swore to me that, if I would ever have kids, I want them to know that they have my support and that I’m there to help them, if they need me (assuming I can help…). Too lenient. Gave me too much of what I want. Cared too much about how felt instead of how strong and compitent and willful I was.
