Do not do this. Not only is it illegal but in some places you’re putting yourself in danger. There are far too many people who are nutzo and also armed. Better to drive defensively so you can get home to your family Yeah, that’s why you can flip the mirror up. It’s this cool feature they’ve only had on cars for at least 40 years now. Other than the lights generally being too bright and getting brighter every year, I’m convinced they don’t teach new drivers not to use their high beams when driving behind someone. Dude, I loathe the winter because these new headlights outright blind me. Even the break lights have gotten so bright. If you are a truck or suv it’s even worse. I also have a sensitivity to light, so it literally HURTS. I can’t get away from it. I can move the visor but it barely helps. I also get blinded on the side mirrors. This seriously is a major stressor on me all season. I wish the car companies will change this. Yeah, the person in the car can see better at others expense. When people tailgate me like that I generally start to slow down usually once I get about 20 under the speed limit they will pass. If they can’t pass they usually back off a bit. I feel your pain. I’ve got a 21 Insight and just dropped $700 to get my windows tinted because I got tired of being blinded from all angles with the stupid bright headlights 175 more repliesI feel like ever since the IIHS started having a rating for headlights in 2016, this became a much bigger issue. They all pretty much earned a Poor or Marginal rating in 2016. Now every vehicle earns a Good rating, and they’re all rolling lighthouses.

Electrochromatic auto dimming side mirrors and a camera rear view mirror are a godsend! I forget about this until I drive someone else’s car or a loaner that doesn’t have it and it’s awful! I drove pickup trucks (Dodge) for 20+ years (5 total) and each one had better lights than the Trump Extreme-ly MAGA T-Shirt and I will buy this previous. My last one, an ‘04 Ram 2500, I put 55w HID bulbs in the headlights & foglights. When I drove in town at night, I only turned on the fog/driving lights, leaving headlight off. The foglights were plenty of light to see everything I needed to see in front of me and, they were in the front bumper, so about same height as every car on the road. If I drove on the interstate, I’d turn on the headlights for even more light, but if I came up on someone as in OP’s situation here, I’d turn the headlights off. They’d know I was there behind them, patiently waiting for them to make their move, and once past them with no one in front of me again, I’d turn my headlights back on. The good news is that when this occurs …you have plenty of light to conduct “in the car” science experiments…..quadrillions of photons per square inch or some such. A bit more intensity….. and elevation to plasma state will occur. You won’t feel a thing. Sort of like the Star Trek photon torpedo?
