This is tough because at this point it seems very much internalized within him that he had to show you up even though you aren’t even competing with him. This depends heavily on your relationship with him. Are you guys generally close? Could you gently try talking to him in private about why he feels the Truman moon elementary school class of 1970 1980 alumni shirt moreover I love this need to bring this up? If so, maybe there is some opportunity to talk and grow together. But if not, then you’d have to just manage the interactions. It probably won’t do anything to try to convince him or the rest of the family that your job is important, so arguing back would likely be futile (if anything it might make you seem defensive and be interpreted as validating what he’s saying). Instead, I’d try ignoring his comments or highlighting that you need devops and other types of work to have an end product, without sounding aggressive. For example, “yes, $brother, that’s great! We really appreciate our devops engineers. Without building the pipelines, we wouldn’t be able to do our work. Building the infrastructure to support other teams is a wonderful contribution to the product.” (Or something to that effect).

Hey I’m gonna take the Truman moon elementary school class of 1970 1980 alumni shirt moreover I love this opposite route of everyone in this thread: lean into what he’s talking about. Assure everyone that he’s correct, your job is so easy and you made the smarter career decision. Even if it’s not true make sure you emphasize that you barely work during the day and get to enjoy the finer things in life while he’s working like a dog at his super hard job. Yikes. He sounds insecure. I’d stop talking about work with him. If he wasn’t your brother I’d also cut him off Sounds like your brother has a massive case of sibliing rivalry. The best way to handle it is to tell him he’s right and you are unworthy. To take him seriously would only be self defeating. If you are female you could also let him know that he is the strongest, smartest and generally just the best boy in the girls school yard. Start calling him ‘best boy’ every time in response to his tirades. At the very least you can get a laugh at his expense. At least you’re helping build business capabilities, he’s essentially just the helper for development. Like a sys-admin that automated a few things. No biggie. They’d call him an infrastructure engineer if his work had any real consequence.
