Pocho didn’t make him choose. Alligators and crocodiles don’t eat a lot compared to any mammal, so making sure it had an occasional chicken or some fish would keep it happy. This! The overwhelming majority of crocodilians in captivity are overfed, even ones kept by well educated professionals, because it’s crazy how little they need. People are like “but he’s so big, surely he needs more!” They don’t though. They’re not super active like mammals, they spend 99% of their time just laying in one spot. They also don’t spend energy keeping their body temperature up like we do. That takes a lot of energy. It’s unbelievable how little food reptiles need! This is exactly how you can go to a gator or croc farm and watch the workers get in there with a deck brush and scrub the animals down with no fear because all of them have full bellies and aren’t remotely interested in more food. When they’re sated they become amazingly docile, they’re just interested in digesting at that point.

I watched a documentary on this a while ago. The owner says he used to go into town and pick up stray dogs and cats and feed them to Pocho I really dont think that works with crocodiles, maybe alligators. But im from a place where we have crocodiles and generally speaking. You can’t just feed a croc and then jump in with him and be “its ok he’s fed, I will be fine.” They will fuck your shit up. ”This croc was essentially lobotomized. It is so friendly because of the brain injury. Still a cool story, but … yeah that croc had its brain altered to be pacified. Crocs and really, all reptiles operate on such a different level that true pet/master companionship is nearly impossible without this level of brain damage.” Edit: It’s not so much a problem with OPs post as it is other people replying to the post thinking that the post was insinuating it is safe to keep a crocodile as pet if you keep it well fed – which isn’t true.
