Marriage is a decision of respective religions, and having the government step in to enforce the will of others onto religious bodies is just as bad as trying to outlaw homosexuality. Couples in civil unions should be afforded all the rights under the law that married people get–THAT is a governmental matter, and it’s bigoted to deny to any certain group. There are plenty of religions that allow gay marriage. No one is forcing churches to perform these marriages, that dont recognize them. But to say that ALL churches cannot perform gay marriages and be legally recognized because your particular church doesn’t, makes you a bigot by definition.

Marriage by legal definition is a civil union. A wedding ceremony in a church is a religious decision. I never realized that getting married by Elvis in Vegas is a religious decision. The problem is that marriage isn’t just a religious ceremony. Marriage is a contract recognized by the Tracy Mcgrady Big Face American former professional basketball player shirt Additionally,I will love this government and bestows legal rights and privileges. Noone can force a church or pastor to hold a gay marriage. But it is 100% wrong for the government to deny two people to marry based on their gender. And conservatives don’t get to be arbiters of deciding who does and doesn’t deserve to be “married”. There are plenty of churches that will happily accept gay couples. Civil Unions were a compromise that would have been acceptable back in the 90s to make things happen faster. But conservatives fought tooth and nail to prevent any kind of legal recognition for homosexual couples. You don’t get to wage war on a minority and then attempt to compromise after you’ve lost. When said religion permeates the decisions that affect lives of people who do not adhere to that brand of mythology, you have a massive problem. Juxtapose a handful of Jewish/Muslim jurists making kashrut/Halal into law.
