Entry-level positions should 100% accept people with zero experience, but they’ve probably been burned too many times to do so anymore. It can cost a lot to train someone. It makes jobs go slower and it takes high-paid employee hours to pass knowledge. This goes for pretty much every field. You could always lie, but you could get caught and burn a bridge. I know a lot of people who’ve faked their way into really good jobs, but they never felt secure because of it. I had to “work” for free for like 3 months just to get experience before negotiating for part time, then get promoted to full time. Just treat it like an investment for yourself, hopefully you still have savings. Even better, you work for free to get experience and start your own company.

Honestly, it’s still a business and it still has to turn a profit to keep the lights on the pay and insurance coverages flowing. For example I have a degree in geology and gis. I just recently moved to a “blue collar” survey position. I still had to suck up my pride and be a an assistant turn learn the basics with limited pay and responsibilities before being able to work on my own. Unfortunately when you do find a blue collar job that will hire you with no experience it’s for shit pay and they treat you like a slave a decent amount of the time I’ve heard a lot of cities are having trouble finding anyone. I know my city had like 42 openings and last I heard they had maybe 3 people apply. Try looking into local trade unions, not just any apprenticeship. I went through the IBEW and all you need is a high school diploma/GED and algebra 1. Aside from the minimum requirements above, it helps if you or a family member are in a union or know someone. I got fast tracked because my dad is a member and half my apprenticeship class was family or family friends of a member, but it doesn’t hurt to reach out to the trade of your choice. I’ve worked IT for eight years and moved up, trained others, and became a lead for a group. Got laid off and no blue collar jobs will even get back to me. It’s so dumb, I just want work.
