So I do the math with the bills and mortgage a d I keep coming up basically with the bare minimum to spend on groceries (was like 100 bucks a month or something). No extras, mortgage, basics for food and electricity and stuff.

Being house poor is an easy mistake to make, especially if the bank isn’t giving a shit either and doesn’t have your back. We ended up budgeting 100 thousand under (so 250) and ended up finding a really small but cute beginner house for 110 thousand). Realtor here, you need to go through the preapproval process so they can get a reality check. You can only buy what you’re approved for I have the same issue. I’d rather buy a less expensive house and be more comfortable financially and upgrade it as needed vs buying a fully renovated house that’s way out of budget and being house poor. Don’t just MENTION the budget tell her she is insane to think you guys can comfortably afford a 800k house with these interests rates. Show her the marriage calculator eatimator at a 7% rate and tell her SURE. Let’s do it.
