I have no idea how you can disagree with that it’s pretty fucking obvious. I can spell c-a-t or c-a-r without needing to memorize some character bullshit. The west is way more flexible in thought and deed than China can ever be, but it has a lot more to do with culture and politics than language. China’s written language is primitive and holds them back. The person who wrote the original tweet is probably an idiot but a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. its not primitive, it barely holds them back. What metric is primitivity based on? What makes chinese primitive? If china continued to use pure traditional, then yes it would probably hold them back but with simplified and pinyin i don’t see how the language could hold them back

Is it more efficient to have to remember 26 symbols and thousands of different ways to arrange them or to remember thousands of symbols that do not require complex arrangement? Once one gets the hang of Chinese calligraphy it’s actually is faster to read and takes less space, it’s just a tough nut to crack with more rote memorization than alphabetic languages. There are pros and cons to both, but I’d argue for alphabetic languages if only because the milder learning curve results in higher literacy rates. We can see that China for all intent and purpose is a dictatorship. Which leads back to the ideas of King/Queen/Emperor ideals. So You could say they have not evolved in many ways.
