I drive well over the limit on interstates, but I’ll move over if I see someone is gaining on me I do sometimes drive for a while in the left lane for a while but only when I’m going faster than the speed of the second to left lane so I’m constantly passing cars anyways Canadian road signs will say “Keep right except to pass”, whereas American signs say “slower vehicles keep right”, and I wonder how much of an impact that difference of phrasing has I know I’m late to this, but I have a reason! I was taught that the left lane was the fast lane and the right lane was the slow lane. I had no idea that I was being an annoying driver until my friend told me what a passing lane was last year. Some families just teach their kids that left = fast and right = slow. This is a small tangent, but where I’m from (Ontario) the law just states that “if you are going slower than the normal speed of traffic, that vehicle shall, where practical, be driven in the right hand lane”, so it isn’t considered the passing lane, just the left hand lane. I can’t even imagine what the controversy section looks like. Probably full of Karens in the making defending why they drive 10-20 below the speed limit on the left lane and why their ass cheeks hurt to move over and maintain their slow ass on the correct lane where they belong.

Where I live, left lane campers are usually completely oblivious to the speed limit, and are going 5-10 miles under. I know Europe gets grief for how some countries treat tourists but I have rented a car a few times over there and NO ONE uses the passing lane except to pass. I was shocked. people get over there, speed up to get in front of slower cars, and immediately move back over, it was amazing, especially in France. Obviously, I am not talking about city driving, that’s a shit-show, but on the highways, it’s amazing. I’m a left lane traveler. Why? It’s the fastest lane and I like to speed. Why individually pass every car when I could just use the left lane and get out of the way when I see a speedy(speedier) Gonzales coming? For what it’s worth – no one ever passes me on the right. My dad drove In the left lane because it’s the fast lane. He was “passing” but he didn’t move over for those wanting to go faster.
