I decided to leave my local pure gym because it had broken equipment, broken taps, leaking ceiling and just generally not worth paying them. I was sick of not being able to get a full workout because oh thats broken and there’s only one of them. One of them had a seat missing and I wondered if someone had raged and threw it or something lol. The low cost would be unsustainable if they kept them pristine all the time, and part of how they keep pricing low is by avoiding having staff around to keep things tidy. £50-60 per month seems to be about the threshold to be able to staff a gym and keep it in good shape! Depending on where you are, you might find something in between at your local leisure centre. Better in Walthamstow, for example, is about £32 for an off peak gym only membership, and it’s considerably nicer than Puregyms.

Completely agree, that’s why I joined a slightly more expensive gym. Less packed, better equipment and facilities. I would say if you can afford it, then definitely find a more pricier gym, I pay £45 a month and worth every penny. You get what you buy. The sad reality is that it depends which part of London you’re in. I paid £45 for a gym in my local area and it was so busy I couldn’t ever get a machine. I pay ~£56pm and it includes classes too. The one in Vauxhall is really small. Usually you can use others from the same branch within the same council.
