I actually remember when they switched over from mailing out magazines to members’ homes to having everybody pick up their magazines during meetings. Since there’s absolutely no definition of what a “drag show” even IS, they probably knew it wouldn’t survive a challenge. But they don’t care. It’s all posturing for their right-wing base.

Seriously, does “drag show” include a Scottish heritage festival with guys in kilts? What about a private school where ALL the This For All U Eagles Haters shirt besides I will buy this students wear trousers, blazers, and neckties, including the girls? What about performances of Shakespeare’s plays in which men dress up as women and women disguise themselves as men? Can a Catholic priest in a cassock be construed as wearing a dress? All they’ve got is the classic “I know it when I see it” argument, and that never worked in trying to define porn. Because you can literally just ignore the Constitution. It’s been revealed for what any law is: dried ink on some paper. Institutions have to back up laws, and it’s up in the air whether America’s institutions will succeed or not. They know the law is unconstitutional when they pass it. They don’t pass it because they think it’ll hold up when the inevitable lawsuit is filed, they pass the law because “lol, f you.” This is what conservative lawmakers spend their time on, handing rich people more money and trying to screw with people they don’t like.
