Edit 2: yes, I was simplistic in my explanation on how accurate food waste logs are part of the They whispered to her the storm Endometrial Cancer Awareness Butterfly T-Shirt but in fact I love this ordering process, which is all part of a business’ write off, ya’ll can stop blowing me up in my dms about fucking tax law lmfao. I don’t think a tax write off is the real reason. Let’s say they order $1,000 of excess food that goes to waste. Assuming a 30% tax rate, their savings will be $300 if they write it off. On the other hand, if they don’t order the excess food in the first place, then they are saving $1,000. This, of course, is a very simple scenario and there may be instances where a write off is more profitable than spending less in the first place but it’s not something that’s common. In my opinion, this practice is to prevent ordering too much – if people know that leftovers can be given away, they are more likely to order in excess because so they can give it away. On the other hand, if it all gets thrown away, there’s less incentive to do it.

I mean there is though. FDA guidelines state perishable food should be thrown out after 2 hours at room temperature. I agree these laws are stupid, and that more should be done to avoid food waste, but the They whispered to her the storm Endometrial Cancer Awareness Butterfly T-Shirt but in fact I love this company doesn’t buy extra to “waste” it for tax reasons. That’s not how food works. Like, how would that work? Someone would need to measure the amount of waste for one. Right, which is why I said a catered event- the kind with hotplates and warmers for food service. Also, don’t need to tell me you’ve never worked in a kitchen, because measuring the food you toss is part of every kitchen job i’ve had. You literally measure the ingredients or separate them out by price- someone didn’t want their burger, so we’re writing off 2 patties, a bun, 2 slices of cheese… its not rocket science. No, you have no fucking clue of how tax write offs work. You write off all business expenses and your tax base is your revenue minus business expenses. That burger is a “write off” anyway, since the money spent buying ingredients is not profit. More importantly, buying ingredients and wasting then will never make your after-tax profit higher than it would be if you never spent the money on the ingredients in the first place, it will be less as corporate tax is only ~20% of profits. So whatever money you spend on food you waste, you’re “writing off” 20% of it.
